so clearly, they're making some asks of kevin mccarthy. and mccarthy for his part, he needs to be careful not to go too far in the direction of the far right because he also has the moderate wing whose votes he needs and they might be happy if he moves in the other direction. the problem with the far right is a familiar one as well. they don't have an alternative. so the question is, what is their end game here if they don't get what they want from mccarthy? will they just drag it out and create an embarrassment for the party? or does it have a plan at the end of it? this also raises the question of why kevin mccarthy is in this position. he and his allies have been measuring the race for the speaker's office for quite a while now and the reason is that democrats overperformed in this election, and kept a much closer margin than the red wave was expected. how do they stop the red wave, one democrat i talked to, told me, let's put this on the screen here, he said i believe it is attributable to an electorate with freedom, competency and civ
