WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FUCKING REVIEWS

I know Unus Annus was supposed to be deleted, and teach a very important life lesson. But as someone who only got to watch the channel a couple months before it got deleted, I still love the videos and miss them very much. I always feel bad for watching the channel, but I still spread the word of the archived videos because I know every Unus Annus viewer misses the channel.

i just wanna say that i am aware that watching this itself is against what they wanted for unus annus, i know that the entirety of the channel was a project of how they’d act knowing that the amount of time until the death of the channel was always lessening but that being said i was too young when unus annus was both created and when it died to enjoy its content like i do now, i wouldn’t have liked the humor and i wouldn’t have been able to appreciate the concept like i can now. so thanks i guess for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this content like the people who were there in its prime were able to.

I’ve been rewatching the entire year worth of videos since about January or February, and bc of school and work I haven’t had a whole lot of time to watch more, but I just got to the videos from March 2020 and it’s crazy to see how different the view about covid was and how none of us could’ve predicted how quickly it would go bad

To all the people I see trying to take a "moral high ground" seem to forget the importance of archiving. sure, 10 years from now you may kind of remember the channel, but how will you know it's accurate? and in 100 years when most of y'all will be dead, who's to say it's a thing that ever even happened in the first place?

Ethan and Mark, or Unus and Annus, were the most memorable faces of November 2019 to November 2020 for me. Every day I would zone out while watching a new video and maybe a video or two I missed. I forgot the channel would be permanently removed from Youtube nearing the end until the final livestream, and after missing those episodes I could've watched sooner were gone. Even though Mark and Ethan said explicitly not to archive or share videos of the channel after the channel was deleted, I am glad I get to rewatch nearly 70 hours worth of content again, at any time and any place. The videos I would be so hype for each and every day still exist because of this archive. Obviously, Unus Annus was a channel that would inevitably be archived no matter how much they plead the audience not to, but I am glad you archived the videos for me to enjoy once more.

I always knew about this but I’m 2019 a lot happened for me. I met my bio dad, got kicked out and had four people die in under three months. 2020 was just as bad with more death but I had my apartment and got out of my toxic household. I never had the time to sit down and watch tho I knew if Mark knew I got out he’d be proud of me. I’ve watched him since 13 and even tho he doesn’t know who I am I think he’d be proud to know I got out of the abusive house I was in. To whoever uploaded these I say thank you. I’m now able to catch up to everyone I know and not be behind the jokes and smiles they had while I was struggling.

I'm happy to say I've been doing well and I'm in a better and safer place now, but it's comforting to know I can still have this to fall back on if I ever find myself that low again. Unus Annus was probably the best thing that happened to me that year. I've watched a lot of the videos, and around a week before they deleted the channel, I thought I should download ALL of the videos. It was almost impossible. I'm so happy my lazy bottom can trust this site to complete this journey, and give a chance to those who didn't get to be a part of this.
I hope Wingus and Dingus won't be mad if they found out.

The only people who are going to be upset by this archive are those who watched Unus Annus before its ending in November 2020 and legitimately thought all of the videos would be wiped from the internet and are salty that people are watching them years later.
Nothing dies on the internet, and Ethan and Mark knew that damn well. They knew that these videos would be archived and reuploaded ESPECIALLY if they repeatedly said in every video that the videos would be gone forever. But the idea that the videos would be gone in a year and them actually committing to deleting the channel helped them produce some of the funniest content I've ever seen in my goddamn life. The novelty of it helped create a fanbase and an atmosphere like none other. These Covid years have fucking SUCKED. Watching old Unus Annus videos legitimately helps me get through it sometimes.

So to all those fans who keep whining that archiving and re-uploading is against their wishes: suck it up.

Over a year ago, I created this archive... and made a discord server for it. Although no one will remember me, probably already most have forgotten me, if anyone reads this, I don't know why I make this archive... I just felt like i needed to. 560,000 views later, and too many emails to me saying this page was reviewed... I think this is quite amazing. I want to keep these videos inside my camera roll as these should never be forgotten. I thank whoever made this archive as it is a true piece of art. It shows me the true reason behind this adventure was not for content, but for a lesson. To show that life is not about the race, but the contents of the race. This shows that all of us take time so granted and it goes away faster than the snap of your fingers. It tells us to cherish our time and to enjoy every second. You can’t stop the clock once it’s started. We all have our own hourglass, just falling, slowly but surely it will make its demise. This has showed the true art of living and how precious time really is. This is like the Mona Lisa, it will never be recreated, or if it is it will never be the same. Was Unus Annus actually smart? No. They said that once they delete the channel, it would be gone forever, and that no one would ever be able to watch it again. In my opinion, they made the worst mistake ever. When something goes online, it will never be gone. The web preserves anything uploaded to it, and just because the source was deleted, does not mean that it's gone forever, because it might just be that someone out there has archived the whole thing, and re-uploaded it again. Unus Annus and Momento Mori contradicts its very self. So, the whole idea of Unus Annus is blatantly idiotic!

It’s been a full year since the channel was deleted, and I had every intention of staying true to the wishes of Mark and Ethan. But it’s been a stressful few months and Unus Annus was a big thing that helped me through 2020. While I know this goes against their wishes, I appreciate that it’s here to help me through my more stressful days

I know what the point of Unus Annus was, but considering the purpose of Internet Archive is the exact opposite, I'm glad it's here. This isn't just Youtube and I'm sure it was put here for different reasons than this, but doing something like this will help future historians so much when it comes to understanding the cultural phenomenon that was (and still is) Unus Annus. I say this as a historian struggling with finding absolutely anything from the time of the topic I'm currently researching.

Laughing about the people getting mad that this was archived. This is inevitable. It's the internet. Everything with a modicum of popularity is archived. Mark and Ethan weren't thinking straight when they thought they could police the entire internet of reuploads. And everyone here chastising the archivist are kind of ridiculous as well. Imagine getting upset that you can still watch videos with a built in FOMO mechanic.

As someone who has been watching UA since the first video, I will say this. I am disappointed by the fact that people are constantly re-uploading these videos, this goes against Mark and Ethans wishes ENTIRELY.

However...

Even though it is disappointing that there is an archive, it is not unexpected. I can also say that even though this goes against the creators wishes I do not think it is a bad thing entirely. Lets face it, its the internet and nothing really ever dies here. I believe that as long as these archives do not produce any profit from these videos and do not take credit for creating them, this is acceptable.

I know that there are some who never got to experience the true thrill of unus annus and it is sad to know that its over, but this allows anyone who wasn't there to experience some of the fun which us original viewers got to have. If I had the chance to delete these videos I would because these are Mark and Ethans wishes, but I know for a fact that there are some who would beg for these to come back.

In summary, just like many things there are good and bad parts to reuploading this. It goes against the creators wishes which is a terrible thing but if it can bring joy to anyone watching, then it was is worth it. Please don't leave the creators or archives any hate and don't argue like children in the reviews section because there are so many better things to be doing with your life.

I cannot even begin to express how happy I am that unus annus was archived. unlike most people who were there from day one, i really got into unus annus when there was about three weeks left of it. and in an attempt to watch all of it before it was gone I watched it on 2x speed on YouTube. not the best way to watch I know, but at the time I didn't think, and still don't think, that I would've been able to watch all of them before the live stream and the inevitable end of it all. I wasn't able to have the best experience, I remember bits here and there, I remember moments where Mark and Ethan laughed, but if someone came up to me and asked about a specific part I probably wouldn't remember. I know this goes against what Ethan and Mark wanted for the channel, and while I do feel conflicted, I'm so happy that I have a second chance to watch and experience this thoroughly without having to rush. so from he bottom of my heart, thank you.

I started watching Markiplier in the summer of 2021. I never knew that Unus Annus existed until people were talking about it ending, with about a month left. I will never have the memories that go along with these videos. But god these vids are funny, and I love Mark and Ethan, and I'm just a kid who needs laughs to cope. This is nothing like the actual channel, nothing like wondering what the next video is. This is someone who missed out, looking fondly at what could have been. Most of us that flocked to this archive have no idea whether to feel guilt for coming here. I'm still conflicted myself. I would like to give my opinions.

Unus Annus was about the experience. If you were there, you'll have the experience that some won't. Even if you look at the archives to mourn, we must live our lives remembering the clock is always ticking. Always. If we can remember death, living life to the fullest will be easy. Ethan and Mark would not have wanted this, but the whole purpose of Unus Annus was about the remembrance of what's inevitable.

There is no wrong way to mourn, but remember that there will be no archive of your untimely end, only memories.

I know that some people are very upset because of this and I understand why. But unus annus helped me so much. Watching Mark and Ethan always made me smile even in the darkest times. Their videos were always a distraction from my sh*t health and the all rough treatments I had to undergo in the past two years. They’ve helped me throughout the times when I was mentally at the very bottom.
I understand that all things have to come to an end eventually, I myself have been close to death quite a few times after all. But even though I agree with the thought behind "memento mori", now undergoing another treatment I’m realising that I’d still prefer for some things to last a bit longer. And I’m sure that I’m not the only one who these videos helped and are still helping till this day to get through hard times.

what you did is basically betraying Mark and Ethan. you never kept their promise. and instead, you reuploaded their videos. What's even worse, you most likely uploaded every single video that was ever posted on their channel. you are not a true fan, and if this is taken down, it's your fault for making this in the first place. you broke the very request they have asked of you. the one, very, very simple request.

I will be honest, nothing ever really goes away on the internet. but in my version of the truth, the only time something is ever truly gone on the internet is either when the internet is replaced with something else, or when people choose to not care anymore.

I don't have any interest in Unus Annus myself, but it still nice to see it saved. I see so many people complaining about saving this series and going the moral high road. If private photos of people who never wished for their photos be shown publicly, are saved and distributed under the justification that that's just "the internet" then I don't see how that doesn't apply here as well. Humans have and will always want to save anything and everything they can. This is why we invented the phonograph, film, books, the printing press, any and every technology that is designed to capture and save our thoughts and hopes and dreams. All of these technologies were born of our desire to record and save things. We may die, but as long as we have these means to record things, we can live on in memory.

To address the initial point:
The harder you push for something to be removed, the more determined the people who save it are to keep the particular thing alive. Personally, I say good on the people who save that which will otherwise vanish. I personally have a SSD lined up for when I find a complete archive.
