Ways of seeing was a great read, part history lesson, part sociological study, part visual essay and a great book for artists and appreciators alike.
It primarily discusses (through various essays) oil paintings, their subjects, their purchasers/ owners and reveals their purpose in the time they were produced and their existence in a modern world.
The essay relating to women and their role as subjects in the paintings was a perspective that broadened my understanding and has prompted further reading on the topic.
Highly recommended for the fact it is an easy read and broadens perspective on art, ownership and it's social impacts.
