great event because most of our community doesn't know that we have a boxing program we're kind of hitting in our community center but this is a chance for us to bring out our boxing program and share our talent with the community and let them know that we have a an awesome boxing program that caters to the entire community of all ages we have a total of 17 bouts tonight we have kids from throughout southern california as far as fresno san diego santa maria and obviously the local area here in la county only two of our boxers were fortunate enough to get bouts our main concern is their safety so we always match them up accordingly meaning we've tried to find opponents that have the same experience same age and around the same weight class for safety and you know to obviously make it and even match an exciting match i've been boxing for about six years it's always been a dream of mine ever since i've known to fight in front of city hall that rush of adrenaline i feel is just really cool hearing all my supporters in the back screaming just cheering me on it just feels great it's a little nerve-wracking but once the first punch is thrown i'm in the zone i'm ready to do what i gotta do oh i'm most excited to see today my teammates my teammates have been working so hard for the past two years because of the pandemic we weren't able to get proper training and i know that my teammates are gonna do great because throughout the pandemic we were training outside without a gym and you know we came to show that you know even if we don't have a gym we can go out there and kick butt being part of our program it offers the kids an outlet to be themselves not only that but through our boxing program our our main focus is is building character discipline commitment and obviously sacrifice because this sport is not the easy sport this is not a team sport they can't rely on a teammate they can't rely on six seven other guys on their team this is them as individuals facing life and facing challenges being scared being afraid and just going full force towards it with no fear i actually competed for the olympic trials i was ranked number three in the u.s and this was in 2019. when i started boxing i used to get bullied so at first i used it as a defense mechanism but later on throughout the years it just turned into something more it helps me get stronger it helps my mentality you know it lets me bring my emotions out in ways i never could comprehend i take a lot of pride in what i do being a boxer myself i truly understand the state of mind that they're in most of the time the challenges that they face at school at home and just everyday life and i can sit there and understand them and it's funny how they listen to my instructions and my direction inside the ring and i also get a chance to redirect them sometimes you know at school or or whatever it is that that they're doing or they're not doing fausto is a great coach you know he's helped me in ways i could never imagine christian too he's giving me so many advice and i always feel [ __ ] my support she's everyone's just great all around foster you know we've been doing this as he was kids you know we had a rough life but um he he continued boxing and you know it's just passion and he showed it to you you know to the kids he's very dedicated he has a really good humble heart and i'm proud of him and you know that's my brother i've been part of the program since i was eight years old so i am a product of the program and the program has been going under my supervision for the last 25 years i'm truly just uh a vessel of the sport and what i do in serving my community i'm here to serve my community to its fullest because it served me when i most needed it and i'm just here to give that back and hoping that the legacy continues for generations to come because it's an awesome program it changes lives it really does and you know we we strive to make champions of life not only in the ring but outside of the ring [Music] you 00:00:02.160 --> 00:00:02.170 align:start position:0% [Music] [Applause] we are here live at centennial square bringing amateur boxing to the city
