3/18/77 SBD (123285) |
Hello Hunter - I must have meant that the music was a half-step flat throughout, and it's more likely that this is caused by a recording error than a musical error because the band would have tuned to the keyboards in standard A 440. If all the songs are equally flat the evidence is strong, I think. Also if the songs "feel" slow but that can be hard to hear - check the timbre of the voices.

Right. Thanks much for the response!! I was just wondering if you had tested the recording to confirm that the pitch is slow (flat) - but something tells me your intuition on this is correct, nonetheless. Comparing the recording to a recently released AUD, which is generally 2% faster, I may consider just splitting the difference and adjusting the SBD faster a bit. Again, thank you, lvartshiva.

Re: 3/18/77 SBD (123285) |
I can confirm via experimental testing that the recording is flat by simply playing along with it with an instrument tuned to standard tuning - as I say, the test is the keyboards, since no-one is going to deliberately detune a Hammond B-3 and every other keyboard being used. Since they are playing in tune with the keyboards it can be shown by playing along (try playing an electronic keyboard to Fire (chords A - B) and you'll see what I mean) that the band is flat. My conclusion is that the recording is being played back slow, or was recorded fast. QED lol

Upon further 'experimentation' by playing along I have to say I am WRONG - only 'Promised Land' seems to be running slow - everything else I checked is in tune
