Went to see Johnny Winter on Sunday at the Peconic Bay Winery. Johnny is playing extremely well and his voice is sounding great as well. The venue was fantastic and it was a beautiful day.

Hey J: posted a few times about seeing the two bros together a time or to, and always a good time. J looked to be going downhill fast, but assume he's still playing well. My exp here is he/they can get ~ 2k to attend. But, I like small shows.

I would love to see JW & EW together. At this recent show it seemed to me that his playing was better and his voice sounded better than the past two times I saw him in the past Year and a half.

I'll definitely be going to see him again.

As you know jg I'm a big fan, so it's a bit disappointing to see he's making two excursions to Europe this year but there's no UK dates. Hope some gaps can be filled by hopping across the English Channel. Glad to hear he's sounding healthy.

My exp is E starts, and does more of his "pop", easily accessible stuff that gets most everyone there going, esp the non-blues, unfamiliar sorts. Then, J comes on, or I should say his out-standing blues band players, that play a high (!!) energy instrumental or two, and then J himself is helped on to the stage, into his chair, and just goes wild on his tiny little guitar (in a subtle way of course).

A real Blues Master; but having grown up with E more than J via the radio (early 70s), I love them both. EG, "Free-ride" is one of my all time favs in a pop kinda way...the HS DEAD coverband I worked with was sometimes associated with a more successful Bay Area cover band and they did a dueling guitars version of Free-ride that used to bring the local bars/gyms/etc down! So, it has a lot of sentimental value for me.

Hope you and the girls are having a good summer, and that visits, etc, are all cool with minimal "hassle"...

I like johnny as well as he's comin to a town near me for a blues fest. Edgar will be there as well.

It's worth the drive to Kitchener.

I've always liked Johnny Winter especially when he played w/his Gibson Firebird. The only minor complaint I might have is that his sets can be quite a bit short.I've seen him mant times, and it is that his sets tend to be on the short side. I hope I'm wrong and if you could say either way that the show length was worth the price of admisssion.
.The last southern blues axeman I saw at the Stone Poney was Kenney Wayne Sheppard, and he did put on a good show.

Yes; that fits the scenario I outlined above, with E playing more, and J's band even playing some solo without him. All told he was only one stage for an hr or so. But it was for both of them, so no problem...

WILL Tell, I might be mistaken but I remember him being on the same bill as JIMI on that ill fated concert where Jimi walked off after about 15,0000 flash cubes went off and didn't play a note. I could be wrong but this sticks in my craw(what ever that is )and then swiftyly left the stage.
I believe it was a big peace benefit and many groups were there and for me the highlight of the show were the Rascals
They had the place as they say a rockin and a rollin.

Nice jglynn, I have always loved Johnny Winter, man that guy can play a guitar like nobody's business. Thanks for sharing, although I hope there was more people than what the picture was showing, it would be a little sad if that was the crowd that showed up for one of the greatest guitar players ever! Maybe though the picture is deceiving! Again thanks for the jwinter love!

It was a small venue, and they claimed it was sold out, it was very laid back and lots of people opted to spread blankets on the lawn so there were empty seats. the only reason I knew about the show was because I check Johnny's site for tour info.
