On the other hand, Reid’s old band Strangefolk has always thrown in some Dead here and there.
In fact, at StrangeCreek 2009 they covered most of the Reckoning album. Nothing spectacular, but it was great fun in the afternoon.: http://www.archive.org/details/sf2009-05-24.sbd
And just for kicks, here is a clip of my boys Jatoba playing Rosalie McFall.

This is perhaps my favorite cover of any Dead tune by anyone:

Some quotes I did find in an Australian article when the album was released:
"It was such a bizarre idea that someone would make an album based about a disaster," Cutler says. "It's like making an album about famine — not an album of pop songs designed to raise money to alleviate famine, more like an album about what it feels like to starve to death. But I loved it, especially the slightly psycho fearfulness of it. Bits of it made me feel afraid."
Cutler was a pioneer of free music, having a hand in the Hyde Park, Altamont and Grateful Dead shows. He says today's music fans feel they have a right to download music for free. "Everyone thinks they have a song in them, so they think 'why should I have to pay for someone else's?'
"For five years the Grateful Dead never charged for a gig because Owsley put the money up — he had made 350,000 acid trips before acid became illegal," he says. "If someone can come up with $5 million a year, I'll take Black Cab all over the world to play for free. But even if you had a sponsor, they still want logos all over the place, so it's not really for free. Those days are over."

i might try to parse it myself this weekend; check out his website, you can download an .mp3 of the Valiant track for free; i'm also curious if his book is available here in the US? i don't generally read works by living authors, but i might make an exception in this case, i'll bet it's a fairly enjoyable read

-the complete text of the book
-the complete audio book (read by Sam)
-a video gallery w/clips from Altamont, and 2 40 minute interviews with Cutler
-a 20 page photo gallery with never before published photos of the Stones and the GD
i swore to myself that i would never purchase any apps, and haven't to date, but i never loooked in the mirror and said, 'Read my lips!', so i think it's okay...

My interest in anything *iTunes* related revolves around being able to converse with my kids about using their ipods. I‘ve been resistant myself, and (finally) just this week have purchased a Roland R-09HR. I recognize that this isn’t a gear forum so I won’t carry on, but in addition to its recording abilities, it makes one heck of an easy ipod alternative for me. Just loaded the SD card with some stuff to play at work tomorrow (via our apparatus) . This is going to be fun.
