Are you running a Mac or a PC? For a PC, right-click the mpeg2 link and save the file to your computer. On a Mac, hold Control and click the link, then save the same.

Hey - thanks for responding - I'm on Windows 7 Pro 64bit - I can do this (right click and download/save to my computer) with the smaller files but not with the mpeg2 - just wondered if there's something I'm missing. I get the little spinning circle on my computer and then the screen shows a faint qt image with a question mark in the middle and won't let me download. Just wondered if there's a workaround here...

To confirm, this is the movie you're trying to play?
http://archive.org/details/long_distanceTry VLC or mplayer instead. Both are free and support nearly any format you throw at it.
