During the 1993-94 program year, 75% of Arkansas' grade 7 through 12 students were enrolled in at least one vocational education (VE) course. Of those students, 52,847 were either academically disadvantaged, disabled, or limited English speaking. In addition, 15,940 and 8,008 students were enrolled in VE programs at Arkansas postsecondary technical institutes and technical and community colleges, respectively. Among the highlights of Arkansas' VE program during 1993-94 were the following:...

Poly(methylphenylsilylene) has been functionalized by protodearylation with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. Comb-like graft copolymers have been prepared by polymerizing tetrahydrofuran, 2-methyl-2-oxazoline, and isobutylvinyl ether from a partially triflated poly(methylphenylsilylene) backbone. Model studies using trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate to initiate the cationic polymerization of these organic monomers indicated that a promoter was required to achieve more efficient initiation.

A two year program was initiated on October 1, 1990 to pursue new approaches on improving the compressive properties of polymer based composites. This included work directed at new kinds of reinforcing agents, improved matrices and on the fiber matrix interface. A number of significant breakthroughs were achieved as a result of this study. In the case of the polymer matrix studies sufficient progress was made to justify additional funding and time extensions.

A section of a Riemannian $G$-manifold $M$ is a closed submanifold $\Sigma$ which meets each orbit orthogonally. It is shown that the algebra of $G$-invariant differential forms on $M$ which are horizontal in the sense that they kill every vector which is tangent to some orbit, is isomorphic to the algebra of those differential forms on $\Sigma$ which are invariant with respect to the generalized Weyl group of this orbit, under some condition.

We construct the string field Hamiltonian for $c=1-\frac{6}{m(m+1)}$ string theory in the temporal gauge. In order to do so, we first examine the Schwinger-Dyson equations of the matrix chain models and propose the continuum version of them. Results of boundary conformal field theory are useful in making a connection between the discrete and continuum pictures. The $W$ constraints are derived from the continuum Schwinger-Dyson equations. We also check that these equations are consistent with...

The complex transmission of Y_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu_3O_7 single crystal thin films has been measured in the range 0.2-1.0 THz using time domain spectroscopy. The complex conductivity is calculated without using a Kramers-Kronig analysis. All of the superconducting samples show a peak in $\sigma_1(T)$ below $T_c$. The underdoped samples show a deviation from $1/(\alpha+\beta T)$ behavior above $T_c$ that may be linked with the onset of a spin gap.

We investigate deep inelastic lepton scattering from the nucleon within a constituent quark picture, in which the internal structure of constituent quarks is modeled by meson and diquark dressing. In a covariant framework this structure leads to a breakdown of the factorization necessary for a convolution formulation. We perform our analysis in time-ordered perturbation theory in the infinite momentum frame where factorization of subprocesses is automatic. Numerical results are compared with...

We present the QCD corrections to Higgs boson self-energies for arbitrary momentum transfer and for different internal quark masses, to treat the case of CP--even, CP--odd and charged Higgs bosons which appear in extensions of the Standard Model scalar sector. Using Ward Identities, we then relate these results obtained by directly evaluating the relevant two--loop Feynman diagrams to the known expressions for the electroweak vector boson vacuum polarization functions. Finally, we derive the...

Based on the combinatorial description of the moduli spaces of curves provided by Strebel differentials, Witten and Kontsevich have introduced combinatorial cohomology classes $W_{(m_0,m_1,m_2,\dots),n}$, and conjectured that these can be expressed in terms of Mumford-Morita-Miller classes. It is argued that this link should be provided by a theorem of Di Francesco, Itzykson and Zuber which relates the derivatives of the Witten-Kontsevich partition function with respect to one set of variables...

We present production rates of the two- and three-jet final states for the processes of massive $c\bar c/b\bar b$ quark production in circularly polarized photon-photon collisions, including QCD radiative corrections. Lowest order cross section, one-loop virtual correction and gluon emission correction are shown to be of the same order of magnitude for $b\bar b$ quark production at $\sqrt{s_{\gamma\gamma}}\sim 100$~GeV. It is shown that the signal from intermediate mass Higgs boson is...

Combination of the living anionic polymerization of styrene with the ring opening polymerization of cyclotetrasilanes affords the preparation of well-defined polystyrene-block-poly(methylphenylsilylene). Block copolymers with ratios of polystyrene to polysilylene, PS:PMPS ranging from 1:4 to 2:1 have been prepared. The molecular weight distributions are narrow, M(w)/M(n)= 1.3. Radical polymerization of styrene was investigated by initiation with benzoyl peroxide and AIBN, in the presence of nitroxy-based stable radical scavengers. The effects of the concentration of the nature and concentration of nitroxy radicals and the nature and concentration of the radical initiators on the kinetics, evolution of molecular weights and polydispersities of polystyrenes prepared at various temperatures are also discussed.

Polymerization of acrylic monomers was redox initiated by mixtures (1:1) of transition metal derivatives (acetates, metallocenes) with arenediazonium salts. In most cases, molecular weights increase with the conversion and polydispersities are lower than in a typical radical or anionic polymerization at these temperatures. Trapping experiments and relative monomer reactivities based on copolymerization studies indicate that these polymerizations proceed via a radical mechanism. The improved...

Analysis of modern aerospace vehicles requires the computation of flowfields about complex three dimensional geometries composed of regions with varying spatial resolution requirements. Overset grid methods allow the use of proven structured grid flow solvers to address the twin issues of geometrical complexity and the resolution variation by decomposing the complex physical domain into a collection of overlapping subdomains. This flexibility is accompanied by the need for irregular intergrid...

We have developed a theoretical analysis of the current scaling issues of a negatively biased probe in a plasma wake. The theoretical assumptions have been analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by the use of the POLAR computer code. For a plasma with a constant beam energy, the analysis shows that the I-V collection characteristics are unaffected by Mach number variations for Mach numbers above the value of two. For the same case, the current was found to scale with the 3/7 power of the...

In this talk I report calculable nonperturbative QCD effects to the inclusive semileptonic and radiative B-meson decay rates. Small instantons contribute to the Wilson coefficient functions at scales below $m_b$. It is found that the instantons give rise to a potentially large correction to the decay rate near the boundaries of the phase space for the semileptonic decay case, but totally negligible for the radiative case. I explain how the difference may be understood as a simple consequence of...

We consider the search for the Higgs boson at a high-luminosity Fermilab Tevatron, an upgraded Tevatron of energy 3.5 TeV, and the CERN Large Hadron Collider, via $WH/ZH$ production followed by H -> bb~ and leptonic decay of the weak vector bosons. We show that each of these colliders can potentially observe the standard Higgs boson in the intermediate-mass range, 80 GeV \gamma\gamma at the LHC. In addition, it can potentially be used to observe the lightest Higgs scalar of the minimal...

We perform a detailed study of the constraints from $b\to s\gamma$ on a large class of supergravity models, including generic four-parameter supergravity models, the minimal $SU(5)$ supergravity model, and $SU(5)\times U(1)$ supergravity. For each point in the parameter spaces of these models we obtain a range of $B(b\to s\gamma)$ values which should conservatively account for the unknown next-to-leading-order QCD corrections. We then classify these points into three categories:...
