We review a cosmology in which particles are fluctuationally created from a background Zero Point Field. This cosmology is consistent with recent observations of an ever expanding and accelerating universe, as also the recently confirmed evolution of the fine structure constant. All hitherto mysterious and accidental, so called Large Number coincidences, infact follow from the theory.

We investigate selectron pair production and decay in e-e- scattering and e+e- annihilation with polarized beams taking into account neutralino mixing as well as ISR and beamstrahlung corrections. One of the main advantages of having both modes at disposal is their complementarity concerning the threshold behaviour of selectron pair production. In e-e- the cross sections at threshold for seleectron_R selectron_R and selectron_L selectron_L rise proportional to the momentum of the selectron and...

It is proven that any hidden variable theory of the type proposed by Meyer [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 83}, 3751 (1999)], Kent [{\em ibid.} {\bf 83}, 3755 (1999)], and Clifton and Kent [Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. A {\bf 456}, 2101 (2000)] leads to experimentally testable predictions that are in contradiction with those of quantum mechanics. Therefore, it is argued that the existence of dense Kochen-Specker-colorable sets must not be interpreted as a nullification of the physical impact of the...

A generalization of the thermodynamic uncertainty relations is proposed. It is done by introducing of an additional term proportional to the interior energy into the standard thermodynamic uncertainty relation that leads to existence of the lower limit of inverse temperature.

Eigenfrequencies of two mutually interacting gas bubbles in an acoustic field are discussed theoretically and numerically. It is shown by a linear theory that a bubble interacting with a neighboring bubble has three eigenfrequencies that change with the distance between two bubbles, and the sign and magnitude of the primary Bjerknes force acting on bubbles also change according to the change in the eigenfrequencies.

We compute the Floer homology of mapping classes which do not have any pseudo-Anosov components in the sense of Thurston's theory of surface diffeomorphisms. The formula for the Floer homology is obtained from a topological separation of fixed points and a separation mechanism for Floer connecting orbits. As examples, we consider the geometric monodromy of isolated plane curve singularities.

We propose a new and efficient method of reconstructing quark mass matrices from their eigenvalues and a complete set of mixing observables. By a combination of the principle of NNI (nearest neighbour interaction) bases which are known to cover the general case, and of the polar decomposition theorem that allows to convert arbitrary nonsingular matrices to triangular form, we achieve a parameterization where the remaining freedom is reduced to one complex parameter. While this parameter runs...

Socialist Worker was the newspaper of the Socialist Workers Organisation (later just Socialist Worker), which had been formed of a merger of the old Communist Party of New Zealand and the then very young International Socialist Organisation. Though the merger did not last, the SWO did and Socialist Worker continued until it was replaced with Socialist Worker Monthly Review in 2002. Socialist Worker had replaced Workers Voice which printed over '93-'94, which itself had replaced the...

We describe the theory and implementation of a three-dimensional fluid dynamics code which we have developed for calculating the surface geometry and circulation currents in the secondaries of interacting binary systems. The main method is based on an Eulerian-Lagrangian scheme to solve the advective and force terms in Euler's equation. Surface normalised spherical polar coordinates are used to allow the accurate modelling of the surface of the star, as is necessary when free surfaces and...

The spectral density for vector vibrations in the f.c.c. lattice with force-constant disorder is analysed within the coherent potential approximation. The phase diagram showing the weak- and strong-scattering regimes is presented and compared with that for electrons. The weak-scattering regime for external long-wavelength vibrational plane waves is shown to be due to sum-rule correlations in the dynamical matrix. A secondary peak below the Brillouin peak for sufficiently large wavevectors is...

An analytical result for renormalization of the jump of the heat capacity Delta C/C_N by the anisotropy of the order parameter is derived in the framework of the model proposed by Haas and Maki [Phys. Rev. B 65, 020502(R) (2001)], for both prolate and oblate anisotropy. The graph of Delta C/C_N versus the ratio of the gaps on the equator and the pole, Delta_e/Delta_p, of the Fermi surface allows a direct determination of the gap anisotropy parameter Delta_e/Delta_p using data from specific heat...

Quasi-saddles or inherent saddles of the potential energy surface, $U$, of a liquid are defined as configurations which correspond to absolute minima of the pseudo-potential surface, $W =\wf$, as identified by a multi-dimensional minimisation procedure. The sensitivity of statistical properties of inherent saddles to the convergence criteria of the minimisation procedure is investigated using, as a test system, a simple liquid bound by a quadratically shifted Lennard-Jones pair potential with...

We have examined the deformation of a generic non-Abelian gauge theory obtained by replacing its Lie group by the corresponding quantum group. This deformed gauge theory has more degrees of freedom than the theory from which it is derived. By going over from point particles in the standard theory to solitonic particles in the deformed theory, it is proposed to interpret the new degrees of fredom as descriptive of a non-locality of the deformed theory. It also turns out that the original Lie...

A class of spectral problems with a hidden Lie-algebraic structure is considered. We define a duality transformation which maps the spectrum of one quasi-exactly solvable (QES) periodic potential to that of another QES periodic potential. The self-dual point of this transformation corresponds to the energy-reflection symmetry found previously for certain QES systems. The duality transformation interchanges bands at the bottom (top) of the spectrum of one potential with gaps at the top (bottom)...

Inspired by the Borcherds' work on ``$G$-vertex algebras,'' we formulate and study an axiomatic counterpart of Borcherds' notion of $G$-vertex algebra for the simplest nontrivial elementary vertex group, which we denote by $G_{1}$. Specifically, we formulate a notion of axiomatic $G_{1}$-vertex algebra, prove certain basic properties and give certain examples, where the notion of axiomatic $G_{1}$-vertex algebra is a nonlocal generalization of the notion of vertex algebra. We also show how to...

We compute chemical evolution models to constrain the mode and the history of star formation in starburst galaxies as a whole, i.e. over a large range of mass and metallicity. To this end, we investigate the origin of the dispersion observed in the evolution of both nitrogen-to-oxygen abundance ratio and galaxy luminosity as a function of metallicity for a large sample of starburst galaxies. We find that the variation of the star formation efficiency, in the framework of continuous star...

Parallel machines are becoming the main compute engines for high performance computing. Despite their increasing popularity, it is still a challenge for most users to learn the basic techniques to optimize/parallelize their codes on such platforms. In this paper, we present some experiences on learning these techniques for the Origin systems at the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division. Emphasis of this paper will be on a few essential issues (with examples) that general users should master...

Generalizing a question of Mukai, we conjecture that a Fano manifold $X$ with Picard number $\rho_X$ and pseudo-index $\iota_X$ satisfies $\rho_X (\iota_X-1) \le \dim(X)$. We prove this inequality in several situations: $X$ is a Fano manifold of dimension $\le 4$, $X$ is a toric Fano manifold of dimension $\le 7$ or $X$ is a toric Fano manifold of arbitrary dimension with $\iota_X \ge \dim(X)/3+1$. Finally, we offer a new approach to the general case.

A model of quantum computing is presented, based on properties of connections with a prescribed monodromy group on holomorphic vector bundles over bases with nontrivial topology. Such connections with required properties appear in the WZW-models, in which moreover the corresponding n-point correlation functions are sections of appropriate bundles which are holomorphic with respect to the connection.

N=2 SQED with several flavors admits multiple, static BPS domain wall solutions. We determine the explicit two-kink metric and examine the dynamics of colliding domain walls. The multi-kink metric has a toric Kahler structure and we reduce the Kahler potential to quadrature. In the second part of this paper, we consider semi-local vortices compactified on circle. We argue that, in the presence of a suitable Wilson line, the vortices separate into domain wall constituents. These play the role of...
