The composite operator T\bar{T}, obtained from the components of the energy-momentum tensor, enjoys a quite general characterization in two-dimensional quantum field theory also away from criticality. We use the form factor bootstrap supplemented by asymptotic conditions to determine its matrix elements in the sinh-Gordon model. The results extend to the breather sector of the sine-Gordon model and to the minimal models M_{2/(2N+3)} perturbed by the operator phi_{1,3}.

We propose that n-type semiconductor quantum dots with the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin orbit interactions may be used for single electron manipulation through adiabatic transformations between degenerate states. All the energy levels are discrete in quantum dots and possess a double degeneracy due to time reversal symmetryin the presence of the Rashba and/or Dresselhaus spin orbit coupling terms. We find that the presence of double degeneracy does not necessarily give rise to a finite...

Simultaneous measurement of multiple qubits stored in hyperfine levels of trapped 111Cd+ ions is realized with an intensified charge-coupled device (CCD) imager. A general theory of fluorescence detection for hyperfine qubits is presented and applied to experimental data. The use of an imager for photon detection allows for multiple qubit state measurement with detection fidelities of greater than 98%. Improvements in readout speed and fidelity are discussed in the context of scalable quantum...

This article is from Clinical Pediatric Endocrinology , volume 15 . Abstract Nutrient-enriched milk has been advocated to enhance premature infants’growth and early nutritional intervention is effective for growth failure in very low birth weight infants (VLBWI). We studied the 3-yr-old physical growth of VLBWI who received nutrient enriched diets in the early neonatal period. VLBWI, who were born in 1996, received nutrient enriched milk around 1 mo of age. By contrast, in VLBWI born in 1998,...

The onset of gravitational collapse in cluster-forming clouds is still poorly known. Our goal is to use the Class 0 protostar IRAS 4A, which is undergoing collapse in the active molecular cloud NGC 1333, to set constraints on this process. In particular we want to measure the mass infall rate and investigate whether the collapse could have been triggered by a strong external perturbation. We analyze existing continuum observations to derive the density structure of the envelope, and use our new...

In the paper, hep-th/0501055 (R.G. Cai and S.P. We present a comprehensive analysis of long-term periodic variability of Cyg X-1 using the method of multiharmonic analysis of variance (mhAoV) applied to available monitoring data since 1969, in X-rays from Vela 5B, Ariel 5, Ginga, CGRO and RXTE satellites and in radio from the Ryle and Green Bank telescopes. We confirm a number of previously obtained results, and, for the first time, find an orbital modulation at 15 GHz in the soft state and show the detailed non-sinusoidal shape of that...

The Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) 3-260-01 Airfield and Heliport Planning and Design specifies that Class B runways for Army and Air Force airfields must have 1,000 LF of paved overrun at each end. Runway 03/21 does not currently meet these criteria. Also repairs to the Runway 03/21 surface and subgrade are required due to heavy continuous use since its original construction.

Walczak formula is a very nice tool for understanding the geometry of a Riemannian manifold equipped with two orthogonal complementary distributions. Svensson [7] has shown that this formula simplifies to a Bochner type formula when we are dealing with K\"ahler manifolds and holomorphic (integrable) distributions. Here, with adapted notions as invariant distribution and (contact) holomorphicity, we derive the special form of the Walczack formula on a Sasaki manifold. Then we apply a...

We consider the evaporation of (4+n)-dimensional non-rotating black holes into gravitons. We calculate the energy emission rate for gravitons in the bulk obtaining analytical solutions of the master equation satisfied by all three types (S,V,T) of gravitational perturbations. Our results, valid in the low-energy regime, show a vector radiation dominance for every value of n, while the relative magnitude of the energy emission rate of the subdominant scalar and tensor radiation depends on n. The...

We present a newly-developed, three-dimensional spatial classification method, designed to analyze the spatial distribution of early type stars within the 1 kpc sphere around the Sun. We propose a distribution model formed by two intersecting disks -the Gould Belt (GB) and the Local Galactic Disk (LGD)- defined by their fundamental geometric parameters. Then, using a sample of about 550 stars of spectral types earlier than B6 and luminosity classes between III and V, with precise photometric...

The samples may be arranged in repetitive ways to form a conventional musical structure or may be random and unfocused. Sometimes the sound is mixed with urban or "found" sounds. Examples include much of Biosphere's Substrata, Mira Calix's insect music and Chris Watson's Weather Report. Some overlap occurs between organic ambient...

We discuss the spectrum of Higgs bosons in the framework of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model. The presence of a $Z'$ and exotic particles predicted by the exceptional SUSY model allows the lightest Higgs particle to be significantly heavier than in the MSSM and NMSSM. When the mass of the lightest Higgs boson is larger than $135-140 {GeV}$ the heaviest scalar, pseudoscalar and charged Higgs states lie beyond the ${TeV}$ range.

We show how Rio's method [Probab. We give two applications of this general result: in the case of the Knudsen gas and in the case of the Sinai billiard.

This article compares the Ks magnitude distribution of Small Magellanic Cloud asymptotic giant branch stars obtained from the DENIS and 2MASS data with theoretical distributions. Theoretical Ks magnitude distributions have been constructed using up-to-date stellar evolution calculations for low and intermediate-mass stars, and in particular for thermally pulsing asymptotic giant branch stars. Separate fits of the magnitude distributions of carbon- and oxygen-rich stars allowed us to constrain...

Merging neutron stars (NSs) are hot candidates for the still enigmatic sources of short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). If the central engines of the huge energy release are accreting relic black holes (BHs) of such mergers, it is important to understand how the properties of the BH-torus systems, in particular disc masses and mass and rotation rate of the compact remnant, are linked to the characterizing parameters of the NS binaries. For this purpose we present relativistic smoothed particle...

Recent theoretical work has concentrated on calculating the Casimir effect in curved spacetime. In this paper we outline the forward problem of metrical variation due to the Casimir effect for spherical geometries. We consider a scalar quantum field inside a hollow superconducting sphere. Metric equations are developed describing the evolution of the scalar curvature after the sphere transitions to the normal state.

Simultaneous description of ordinary and hypernuclei masses by a single mass formula has been a great challenge in nuclear physics. Hyperon-separation energies of about forty Lambda($\Lambda$), three Lambda-Lambda($\Lambda\Lambda$), one Sigma($\Sigma$) and seven Cascade($\Xi$) hypernuclei have been experimentally found. Many of these nuclei are of light masses. We prescribe a new mass formula, called BWMH, which describes the normal and hypernuclei on the same footing. It is based on the...

In this Brownian control problem (BCP), both the system manager's control and the associated cumulative cost process may be locally of unbounded variation. Due to this aspect of the cost process, both the precise statement of the problem and its analysis involve delicate technical issues. We show that the BCP is...
