This Great Egret pops in for a morning feeding of fish. As we can vividly see the field mark for this large majestic white heron is its yellow dagger like bill. I go back 50 years on this spot and this summer the Long Island Sound water has never been cleaner.

A low-tide at sunrise and a very calm and warm morning make good conditions for this Great Egret to have breakfast. Here we see the Great Egret eating a healthy diet of seaweed and fish. Its laser vision and long slender yellow bill are quite effective.

Nets have been set-up just after sunrise so zoologists can catch and band migratory birds. The watering hole is used by birds, rhinoceros, hyenas, forms of antelopes, and other creatures. The nets will be manned during the day to keep, if possible, those creatures away and prevent them from getting tangled in the nets. Great Fish River Reserve, Eastern Cape, South Africa. May 2, 2009.
