Created by the U.S. Army in 1967, this film about the Bell OH-58 Kiowa helicopter features footage from the Vietnam War, emphasizing the concept of air mobility and showing the OH-58A scout. The Bell OH-58 Kiowa is a family of single-engine, single-rotor, military helicopters used for observation, utility, and direct fire support. Bell Helicopter manufactured the OH-58 for the United States Army based on its Model 206A JetRanger helicopter. The OH-58 has been in continuous use by the U.S....

Textron / Beechcraft is charging $2000 for this little part. It prints in about 15 minutes. You do the math. Someone else put a slightly different version of this knob on Thingiverse. There are at least two sizes, this one is 1.375" in diameter. The other one is 1.9" in diameter. Both have .125" hole for mounting on the shaft on the rheostat. Up to you and your A&P to determine whether it's airworthy. But, it's a knob on the rheostat, seems like an ideal "ower produced...

The 1985 NSRP Design For Production Manual (SP-4,1986) describes of a Build Strategy basis for improved shipbuilding performance through front end involvement of all de elements and better communication. A number of shipbuilders are known to have used the approach However. the extent of its use and the experience of the users was unknown. To remedy this situation the SF-4 Panel conceived a project to determine; (l) how widely the Build Strategy approach was known and used by U.S. shipbuilders,...

This is a replacement for the rubber grommets found under the seat of Textron / Arctic Cat Prowler side-by-side UTVs. In my case, a 2018. It was created to solve the problem of the rubber grommet popping out and being lost, and it being such a pain to have to order these in when I need them. This is an accurate replacement part, and when printed with TPU, it's a good replacement. The hard part is getting it to fit in the hole it is supposed to. I may have to create a second model that will...

All shipbuilders plan how they will build their ships. The plan may be only in someone's head or a detailed and documented process involving many people. Often different departments prepare independent plans which are then integrated by a Master Plan/Schedule. A Build Strategy is much more than the normal planning and scheduling and a description of how the Production Department will build the ship. Many shipbuilders use the term Build Strategy for their Production Plan only. In terms of this...

Health and usage monitoring systems (HUMS) use vibration-based Condition Indicators (CI) to assess the health of helicopter powertrain components. A fault is detected when a CI exceeds its threshold value. The effectiveness of fault detection can be judged on the basis of assessing the condition of actual components from fleet aircraft. The Bell 412 HUMS-equipped helicopter is chosen for such an evaluation. A sample of 20 aircraft included 12 aircraft with confirmed transmission and gearbox...

Textron Defense Systems has developed a wide range of unattended ground sensor (UGS) systems for the military and border patrol. These include T-UGS (Tactical UGS), U-UGS (Urban UGS), and most recently the new MicroObserver multimodal UGS system. MicroObserver is characterized by its best-in-class covertness, ease of deployment, negligible false alarm rate, and extremely long battery life (2+ years), yet with very low total cost of ownership. It uses advanced tracking and imaging algorithms to...

This program is directed toward an assessment of the effects of rain erosion damage on loss in transmission of radiation through window materials. The general influence of the progression of the material removal process on the spectral transmittance of polymeric materials (polymethylmethacrylate, polysulfone, polycarbonate, and nylon) and soda lime glass was evaluated for wavelengths from 0.5 to 2.1 microns. Erosion mechanism evaluations were made for the window materials (Chemcor, Cortran,...

An additional mirror was added to the solar concentrator equipment so that is possible to make solar cell measurements at approximately 5 gm- calories/sq cm/min solar intensity. The concentrator was used to verify the sunlight power predictions made from tungsten power measurements during the P() /N bivariable experiment. A general equation was developed for the theoretical determination of the total cell series resistance from a knowledge of the values of the component resistances. The...

Results of an experimental program to determine the solubility and diffusion rate of nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen in beryllium are reported. The solubility of nitrogen in beryllium at 1000 C is estimated to be about 60 ppm; this value appears to be temperature independent.
