This Easter weekend we decided to take a daytrip from Victoria BC around the Pacific Marine Circle Route from Victoria BC. This time we decided to follow the route counterclockwise and started out through Goldstream, the Malahat lookout points and stopped in Duncan at Garage cafe for coffee and cinnamon buns. We continued on our drive across the island through Lake Cowichan. Our next stop was Fairy Lake. Our main destination this day was Avatar Grove. We managed to drive our small compact Yaris...

A particularly ugly and alarming face of tourism is the growing nexus between tourism, trafficking and child sexual exploitation. Poor tourism planning leads to displacement of communities and loss of traditional livelihoods. This pushes children into tourism-linked work like selling trinkets and services and working in small eateries. The gap between tourists and local communities and the celebration of consumerism that tourism is mostly about, defines these gaps more sharply. The increased...

Stonehenge was evidently built in 1954, thus solving the "mystery" of how these stones were erected. Some say it existed in some form before 1954, and there are earlier photos of a jumble of smaller rocks. But such a construction as shown here, can hardly hold a claim to having any kind of authentic archaeological value. See for yourself.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a popular tourist destination in India. This has meant a slew of proposals to expand and intensify tourism, huge investment in infrastructure, improved connectivity and relaxation on Leave Travel Concession (LTC) for domestic tourists. However, these plans are not based on how tourism impacts the Islands. They have failed to take into account aspirations of local communities and whether ground realities support the assumptions made. This Research Report is an...
