More 8mm film excavation - some challenges with the format, and the damage to the original "negative" (ie the 8mm camera print) still causes some jumps in the track. This is the introduction of the "Benny Bugg" character, created on the plane while my brother and I went to WDW for the fist time in 1980. Sadly, the closing credits were damaged in the duplication, so regular text titles fill in the information. It's a mass of paper cel animation and sticks (somewhat) to a...

Released from 2002 to 2004, In the Shadow of No Towers is a series of comic strips by American cartoonist, Art Spiegelman, based entirely around his reaction to the September 11th attacks. Originally serialized in the German paper Die Zeit , the strips were collected into an oversized board book in 2004 by Viking Adult . Created as a way for Spiegelman to process his witnessing of the attacks (and to avoid PTSD), No Towers is a harrowing addition to the moving, intellectual non-fiction comix...

From the creator of Little Nemo comes this pioneering cartoon strip, a world of dreams and nightmares, fraught with episodes of wish fulfillments and exaggerations in size and perspective. This facsimile of the rare 1905 first edition recaptures Winsor McCay's imaginative brilliance and his influence on latter-day animation with 60 cartoon sequences.

Released on September 15th, 2014. Sometimes called the world's oldest cartoon (erroneously), it is still the first to be created using keyframe animation. This movie required Winsor McCay and his assistant John A. Fitzsimmons (who traced the backgrounds) to create 10,000 drawings, which they inked on rice paper and mounted on cardboard. Gertie is a dinosaur based on the Brontosaurus (nowadays known as Apatosaurus) skeleton in the American Museum of Natural History. McCay's employer, William...

Description from Wikipedia : How a Mosquito Operates (1912), also known as The Story of a Mosquito , is a silent animated film by American cartoonist and animator Winsor McCay . The six-minute short, about a giant mosquito who torments a sleeping man, is one of the earliest animated films and is noted for the high technical quality of its naturalistic animation, considered far ahead of its contemporaries.

This is a index of first lines, I made of all the 'Dream of the Rarebit Fiend' comic strips, that I could find. Most of them were collected in the "The Complete Rarebit Fiend 1904 - 1913" by Ulrich Merkl. A few others were in the "Winsor McCay: Early Works IX" by Checker Book Publishing Group. This will hopefully help collector's to know which comicstrips they have and which are missing from their collections. Hopefully all the comics will someday be found and gathered...

The Sinking of the Lusitania, released in 1918, is an animated short film by American artist Winsor McCay. It features a short 12 minute explanation of the sinking of RMS Lusitania after it was struck by two torpedoes fired from a German U-boat. The film was one of many animated silent films published to create anti-German sentiment during World War I. McCay illustrated some 25,000 drawings for the production. The film is stylized as a documentary, informing viewers on details from the actual...

From IMDB: Gertie the dinosaur has been brought into the modern world. Continually perplexed by her new surroundings, she begins to explore the new sights. But when she sleeps, she dreams of the way it used to be, in the days when the world was full of dinosaurs like herself.
