said Yuuki Kagurazaka, the so-called Grandmaster, as
Rimuru prepared to leave.

One day, I shall have the opportunity to discuss the sacred
manga texts with this man, I feel. As for the children, they
were sweet and well-mannered. It was time very well spent
in this place.

When I am revived into the world, I should like to come back
and visit again for myself.

And then the day of parting arrived.
"Teacher... Do you really have to go?" lamented Chloe.

Rimuru gave her a mask as a gift. He'd been treasuring it as a
keepsake of Shizue Izawa, so it was strange to see him letting
go of it.

I do have to say...I find the mask to be noteworthy somehow.
After all this time, something about it is familiar to me...

"Is something the matter, Master Veldora?"
"Hmm? No. It is nothing."

Iam sure of it now. Although there are many similar masks,
which is why I initially failed to identify it, that was the very
mask worn by the Hero who sealed me within my prison.

Actually...no.

Shizu's mask was broken and Rimutru repaired it, so strictly
speaking, it is not the exact same mask. Still...there is some-
thing oddly potent about it...something nostalgic. From the
Hero, to Shizu, to Rimuru, and now to Chloe. Perhaps there
is some fateful connection that binds them all...

Just kidding!
Of course there isn't.

For one thing, anyone who starts calling themselves a "Hero"
is simply ensuring that they forge a connection with a De-
mon Lord. Chloe does not seem the type to do such a thing,
so surely everything will be fine.

"See you again!"

Whoops. While I've been fretting over the past, I nearly
missed Rimuru's brief and breezy goodbye. But I suppose
Rimuru wouldn't do it any other way. If he ever misses them,

he can always come back.

And that reminds me of those awaiting Rimuru's return.

No sooner had I wondered what entertaining delights might
be awaiting us—than I felt a sudden, foreboding chill. Ina
panic, I turned my attention to the outside world.

"Master Veldora! Something is amiss out there!!" Ifrit re-
ported tensely, though I could already sense it for myself.

As could Rimuru.

"Warning: you are caught within a wide-area magical barrier.
Spatial alteration abilities connecting to outside of the barrier will
no longer work.”

Ah. So the chill I felt was from having my senses blocked. But
if it happened to Rimuru without him noticing it, the barrier
must be a vast one, indeed.

"L-Lord Rimuru!"

Ah! That would be Soei. I seem to recall that he was a
hardy fighter in his own right, but he appears to be gravely
wounded now.

The situation is a dangerous one. Some great, immeasurable
peril is descending upon us—an intuition that was quickly
borne out.

"There is an enemy about, of unimaginable strength... Please,
flee from this—" Soei said, before vanishing.

He claimed that this was only a shadow double, not his true
body, so I presume that he is, in fact, safe and intact, but...

"What do you suppose is happening?"
"I don't know."

But I do know that it is quite bad. And I can tell that Rimuru
feels the same danger that I do. He immediately embarked
on quite a sneaky strategy. But that ability to act with both
haste and caution is what makes him such a dangerous
enemy to face.

"What is Lord Rimuru doing...?"

"Putting down some insurance."

"Just watch. Ideally, this would prove a needless effort, but
there's no telling what might happen this time."

I would've enjoyed the chance to explain, but there was no
time. It would be easier to see this sort of thing for himself.

"Greetings, and well met," said a very cold voice.

"Is that...Hinata Sakaguchi?!" gasped Ifrit, identifying the
stranger.

Ah, I see now. Shizu's other apprentice was a woman much
like this. She is an attractive woman, put simply, but with a
frightening air about her.

If I fought her, I would win, but I do sense that she is not one
to be trifled with. In fact, she reminds me a little of my elder
sist—no, no, not at all. Forget I said that.

Spiritual lifeforms are forbidden from having negative
self-image toward others. After all, if one imagines that an
opponent is powerful, it may prevent one from calling upon
one's own strength.

With this in mind, I carefully observed this “Hinata”.

Hinata and Rimuru face off. Her hostility is palpable in the
air.

Based on the way she speaks, it seems clear that she intends
to kill him. In fact, I find her statements to be downright atro-

cious.

"She wants to destroy our country because it's a nuisance?

I'd like to give her a piece of my mind!"
",..This coming from you, Master Veldora?"
"Is there some problem with that?"

"No, of course not..."

Tignored Ifrit, who clearly had something he wanted to say,
and watched Hinata instead.

She is flawless. One as mighty as I could simply overpower
her if needed, but among those of similar physical ability, she
must surely be at or near the top.

"As you said earlier, Ifrit, this Hinata seems to be a rather
formidable opponent."

"She might only qualify as 'rather' formidable to you, Master,
but to me she is the very image of peril. And she is certainly
more ferocious than when she was Shizu's protégé."

Well, that makes sense. Even after his training with Rimuru
and me, it is hard to say how [frit would fare against this
Hinata...

Besides that, the situation in the outside world is quite grave.

"The magicules are being purified. Likely because of the
wide-area barrier the enemy has placed around us."

"The magicules?! Won't that prevent Lord Rimuru from mak-
ing full use of his power?"

"It will. For one thing, his Magic Sense is worthless without
the energy from magicules. If he has to rely on his visual
sight alone, which he rarely needs to do, it could be a dif-
ficult fight."

"Ah, that makes sense... And that woman is utterly uninter-
ested in having a conversation. I believe Shizu had difficulty
with her, too. She seems very stubborn."

[have no doubt that Ifrit's observation is correct—but the
fight has already begun, so I do not believe dialogue was
ever an option.

That is the problem with Rimuru. He is naive about certain
things. When Hinata said, "I have no interest in a monster's
words," that was a sign the battle had already begun.

Sure enough, Rimuru is very much on the defensive now.
"I'm stunned to see Lord Rimuru pushed so hard."
"He might lose."

"Surely not! He has cleared every challenge he's faced! And
swords do not work on Lord Rimuru. He might not be able
to use magic, but perhaps that just means he will find the one
key to victory because of this limitation?"

"No, Ifrit, you are too optimistic. Think about it. If the enemy
was the one who placed this limitation in the first place, it is a
sure sign that they have a decisive means of victory in mind.
Would you not agree?"

"Outside of attacks relying upon magicules, elemental magic
might be effective— only until the spirits' power is drained,
of course. But I have no doubt that they would work even
within a barrier like this one."

Tam already a mass of magical energy to begin with, so I
would have no trouble. It would affect me, but I can generate
them faster than this barrier can purify the magical essence
from the air.

In the case of elemental spirits, they cause natural phenom-
ena with their own magical power, so the lack of magicules
in the vicinity only has so much effect on them. The only
drawback would be that they cannot recover their strength
without those magicules, so a long-term struggle would be
impossible.

"Ah, I see. I also recall that Hinata was beloved by many spir-
its. Shizu had only myself attached to her, but if 1 am remem-
bering correctly, Hinata had five elements at her command."
"Five?!"

"Yes. Earth, water, fire, wind, and sky, all together."

No light, then. Ah, but of course there wouldn't be. If she
could command a light elemental on top of all that, it would
indicate that she has the quality of a Hero.

But that is beside the point.

It is strange for her not to make use of that elemental magic
now. Or is it that she has no need to use it?

Just now Rimuru took a blow. He's putting pressure on the
wound with his hand.

"That's strange. Lord Rimuru has Pain Nullification and
Ultraspeed Regeneration, so why is he..."

"Because he felt the pain and cannot regenerate his flesh,
perhaps," I replied, and my suspicion was soon borne out.

"Since we're here, I might as well explain. This is my ultimate
technique—certain demise in the form of seven thrusts,"
Hinata said.

I knew it.

"It turns out you were right, Master Veldora."

"Not that it pleases me to be proven correct."

She said seven times, but I am not certain this is precisely
true. It could actually be five thrusts, for example, to make
him sloppy and think he still has more time. At least, that is

what I would do. But as for Hinata...

"Two more.”

Apparently it is true, then. It seems that she feels no need to
lie about it.

"As it is, Lord Rimuru may really fall in defeat..."

"By my estimate, this Hinata is even more powerful than
King Gazel. If conditions are right, Hinata might be capable
of single-handedly vanquishing the likes of Charybdis."

Charybdis has Ultraspeed Regeneration, but this Hinata
woman is so comfortable and skilled in battle that it makes
me believe she would find a way to overcome it.

"Oh, I've been called."
"What?"

"Lord Rimuru just performed an Ifrit summons. So he should
have called me... Huh? How am I supposed to leave this
place, anyway?"

What in the world is Ifrit talking about?

This is Rimuru's "stomach," so if he wants to remove the
spirit, he need not perform a summon at all. In other words,
whatever Rimuru summoned is a different higher elemental.

"Look. He has called someone else, not you."

"Oh... you're right. That's a shame, it should have been my
chance to shine for once."

"You were that confident?"

"Yes. After all, I have your Veldora-style Killing Arts now,
and I have grown much in our time together. I thought that
this might be an opportunity to put my progress on display."

That is indeed too bad, but in my opinion, it is also a stroke
of luck. I can only assume that even Ifrit in its present state
would be unable to cope with this opponent.

Warning: I have calculated based on relative power levels that it
would not be a competition. For the purposes of gauging reaction, I
have separated the duplicated higher elemental Ifrit as a pure spirit.”

Ah, yes. That's the calm, collected Rimuru I know.

After he finished analyzing Ifrit, he created a copy. It will
only have the strength it possessed before training with me,
but it should serve well as a test of the enemy's abilities.

This quickly proved to be the right decision. Hinata exhibited
a secret she held up her sleeve. The Ifrit attempted to attack
her, but struggled without success. It is clear that she is doing
something to prevent it from acting.

Rimuru hastily called the Ifrit back.

"Answer: [frit was under the effect of ‘Force Takeover.’ He suc-
ceeded in resisting due to his magical circuits being connected.”

Ah, so that would explain it.

"If that one was split off from you, then I suppose none of
that had any effect on you."

"Correct. But if I had suffered energy loss, I am certain that
the effect would have been drastic."

"Of course. Still, lam surprised... Even in your pre-training
state, you were totally helpless."

Ifrit's summon ended without serving any fruitful purpose,
and nothing to show for it. How sad for you, Ifrit. Perhaps
this experience will teach you to work harder and be stron-
ger!

"Hey, stop that, Master! Don't look at me with pity in your
eyes!"

"Kwa ha ha ha! Keep at it, my student!"

"Stop talking like that!!"

But enough teasing Ifrit. This accursed Hinata has an ex-
tremely vexing skill at her disposal. Its effects are a bit too
heavy for Rimuru to bear in his current state.

Plus, if she strikes him one more time, she says, it will seal
his defeat. And yet Rimuru will not give up. He bravely goes
on the attack against Hinata!

"Is that really a good idea?! If Lord Rimuru dies, won't we—"

"Kwaaa ha ha ha! Do not panic, fool. Trust in Rimuru, and
enjoy the show!"

I was not concerned, because I could read his thoughts, and
knew what he was attempting. But Ifrit was worried, and
thought that Rimuru was in grave danger. I would have ex-
plained it to him, but the conclusion was already at hand.

"Perish, monster! Dead End Rainbow!!"
"Wake up, Gluttony!"

Hinata's thrust pierced Rimuru. But he knew it was coming,
and countered with a risky stunt: he allowed his own facul-
ties to go out of control. I am impressed at his boldness.

"L-Lord Rimuru has been run through—wait, what is that?!"
Ifrit yelped in alarm. I cannot blame him.

The result was Rimuru, in the form of a most hideous crea-
ture. The features of all the monsters he has absorbed came
to the surface in a chaotic, unspeakable mixture.

But even more fearsome than his countenance is the effect

of the Gluttony skill he unleashed. He showed the ability to
devour everything in sight, until he gobbled up the very stars
in the sky—suggesting a monstrous potential, indeed.

Hinata sensed this threat. "If I don't eliminate you entirely,
you will pose a threat to the world," she muttered, summon-

ing five elementals all at once.

Their job was to hold back Rimuru. And then Hinata cast a

magic spell of dreadful power!

Disintegration—as the name would suggest, a magic spell
that can obliterate all matter through spiritrons, the building
blocks of magicules.

It is the ultimate form of sacred magic, powerful enough that,
it is said, no living thing can withstand it. In fact, excluding
certain beings like Charybdis that do not entirely fit within
the framework of magic, I daresay it could defeat any target.

"Even spiritual lifeforms like us cannot withstand Disintegra-
tion. If Hinata can wield magic this powerful, then she has
grown tremendously since the days I knew her..."

"Lam safe from its effects, because of my great size. But for a
humanoid opponent, the greatest of caution must be em-
ployed against her," I agreed.

Hinata was quite fearsome.

"But how is it that we are fine? Lord Rimuru was evaporated
into nothingness just now, was he not?"

What?! Has Ifrit really not figured it out?

"Well, you see..."

Our viewpoint shifted. Rimuru's insurance plan worked out.
His "insurance" was that Rimuru prepared a body double
ahead of time. When Soei's report arrived, he sensed danger
incoming and set up a body double to fight Hinata, so that
his true body could take shelter.

Iam impressed by the thoroughness of his planning.
Normally, a body double would have no ability to utilize
Unique Skills. But Rimuru was able to transfer his authorities

from his body to the double, thus enabling it to fight at full
potential without giving away the secret to Hinata.

"It was undoubtedly a dangerous gamble. What was it called,
a Holy Field? Without being able to escape the barrier behind
which he was trapped, Rimuru had no choice but to play
dead and convince Hinata that she'd won."

"Ahh, so that's what happened... I was completely fooled."

It is hard to imagine a more ideal result given the circum-
stances, but it was very risky. I hope that Rimuru will get
even stronger, so that he does not need to engage in such
dangerous tactics again.

At least the danger is gone.

"At last, we can go back home."

"I'm not so sure about that, Master."

Hrmm? Yes, something is wrong.

The Holy Field has been dispersed, so he should be able

to use Spatial Movement to zip back home. But Rimuru is

merely talking with Ranga...

I feel an ill omen, a foreboding, an apprehension of bad
news...

My observation of Rimuru continues with anxiety in tow.
